Kekova

kekova Island

 Kekova, home of the sun

Kekova, home of the sun is an island as well as the name of a whole ensemble of picturesque islands, ancient cities and numerous bays providing natural harbours in all seasons

Culture and history

Along the northern shore of Kekova island earthquakes have disturbed the land causing some of the ancient houses to sink under the clear water, creating a sunken city. Visit of the Kaleköy Castle (ancient Simena) offering a bird's eye view of the bay.

Along the northern coast of the Kekova Island (Apollania), some of the old houses were completely immersed by earthquakes during the Byzantine period. By boat, we go round the island, where you will see down to 1 to 2 m depth, in the bluish light of seabed remains. By foot we walk up to the Simena castle rewarding us with a sight all around, and on numerous necropolis.
